An interview with the
directors of Speak Out Now
Speak Out Now Limited formed in 2007 and is a Social Enterprise borne out of concern for the people who are targets of bullying and harassment.
We provide online bullying incident reporting and management tools to schools and colleges, to allow teachers to manage bullying incidents effectively.
Our vision is the eradication of suffering caused by bullying and harassment in schools – we aim for our online systems to give every child a voice that will be heard. We want to help teachers create a safe and harmonious learning environment where young people can thrive and reach their full potential.
5% of our revenues (note not profits but revenues for the sake of transparency) go to Childline, an organisation with which we have much empathy and feel common cause.
Our goal is to deploy Speak Out Now systems into every school at a price that all can afford.
Why Speak Out Now?
The system is a tested and proven system, deployed to thousands of pupils with overwhelmingly positive feedback from pupils, teachers and parents alike. All the schools involved in the early deployments have renewed their licences and many teachers who have experienced the effect of the system in one school have quickly deployed it in their new school when they have moved jobs.
The system has also been consistently praised by Ofsted and participating schools have always done well in the Pastoral theme. The system has also attracted considerable interest from Local Authorities who are interested in improving behaviour and discrimination issues but also in reducing the burden of reporting for both the schools and the authorities. Surrey County recently awarded one school an important safety award, praising our system for its important contribution.
The approach we have taken has been informed by the Every Child Matters agenda, individuals and organisations including experts and agencies from within the Anti Bullying Alliance, Portsmouth University (with whom we work closely) and perhaps most importantly from the pupils and teachers who use our system. The core system is continually developed following feedback and all schools which hold a licence automatically benefit from the system upgrades and shared best practice that this provides.
We know that teachers are very busy people and so we make it all very easy for you:
